In response to the health care reform act in 2010, the Institute of Medicine published an innovative report called the Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health. It explains how nurses will play a vital role in achieving the objectives set forth in the 2010 Affordable Care Act and gives eight recommendations for an action-oriented blueprint for the future of nursing. Already, hospitals across the nation are beginning to implement these recommendations. The Nursing Outreach Committee is a way that we, as nursing students, can become involved with promoting these recommendations through hands-on community health experience.
It’s so easy!
The Coalition for Nursing Careers in California has created multiple presentations for Nurses and future nurses to share to address the long term nursing shortage in California. All our members have to do is simply show up and get ready to have some fun!!
We visit schools K-12 and present to different sized groups of students. Students can learn everything from taking an apical pulse to scholarship opportunities. Also we give back to our school, by going into the Pre-nursing classes and sharing personal tips and tricks we did that helped us get into the program
